The Idea         

Georgia Tech is an institute that strives to produce exceptional global citizens. This is reflected in its partnerships with different universities throughout the world by more than 120 international programs, and in a student body composition of close to 9% of international students. Furthermore, around 60 cultural organizations on campus are dedicated to bringing knowledge about world cultures through a myriad of cultural events. However, BRASA believes that to be productive global citizens, students need to acquire more than cultural knowledge about the world, they need to be aware of world economies, politics, societies and scientific knowledge. To bring this knowledge is to create a generation of global leaders that have the background to discuss and act in a world of constant change. In order to increase knowledge in these areas, dialogue is essential. To provide and encourage this dialogue at Georgia Tech, BRASA wants to introduce the inSight Conference. This conference will feature speakers from the academic, industrial, and governmental fields, providing the audience with a broad and insightful view of a chosen country or world region.

 

For this Event

In recent years, Brazil has established a place for itself in the world scene, becoming the 7th largest economy in the world. Even after the global financial crisis in 2008, it recovered much more quickly compared to other countries due to its substantial industrial and agricultural exports, among other reasons. Its economic rise has increased its influence in international forums and has led to its successful model for cooperation between developing countries. Also, being chosen as the host country for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games has put the country firmly in the international spotlight. Considering all those reasons, and taking into account the fact that Brazil is the home of most BRASA students, we want to choose it as the first country to be addressed by the inSight Conference.
